Our story

We are a small shop in Uttara, Dhaka, run by people who know the stock piece by piece. This page is about us — how Silk N Linen started, where the embroidery on our clothes is actually made, and where to find us. What we sell sits on the home page: original Lucknowi Chikankari kurtis, two-piece and three-piece sets, and the same handwork cut small for little girls.

Who we are

Silk N Linen was built around a simple promise: sell the real thing, and be honest about it. Every piece we stock is hand-embroidered Indian Lucknawi work — not a printed imitation — and we are committed to our customers for quality and transparency in how we describe, price and deliver it. We are a small team, we know our stock piece by piece, and the people who answer our Facebook and WhatsApp messages are the same people who pack the orders.

The name is a nod to what we love in the craft: the softness of the fabric and the fineness of the thread. Our customers are not models, and we like it that way — the photographs on our home page are of the women who actually wear these clothes, in Dhaka and beyond.

Where the work is made

Everything we carry comes from Lucknow, in northern India, where this embroidery has been worked by hand for centuries. It is slow: a single kurta can pass through several pairs of hands — one person for the shadow stitch, another for the jaali, another for the finishing — and none of it is printed or machine-made.

We buy directly from the families who do that work, in small lots. That is why a colour sometimes sells out and does not come back, and why we would rather mark a shade sold out than quietly put another one in its place.

We also do not pretend that every piece is identical. Handwork varies. A measurement can sit half an inch either side of the label, and a dye lot can read a shade warmer in daylight than it does on a screen. We would rather say so here than have you find out at the door.

Sizes, delivery and care

All of that is kept on the home page, under Our Collections — the cuts and cloths we carry, the sizes each one runs in, what delivery costs and how long it takes, and how to wash Chikankari without spoiling it. It lives in one place so that it can never go out of date in two. To order, or to ask about anything you have seen, message us on WhatsApp; the number is just above.
